What I've been doing

1. not blogging (obviously)
2. Talking with my old blind roommate John who is kicking it tough in Ann Arbor and needs people to hang out with.
3. Waiting to hear if I got in to Columbia's Summer Principal Academy
4. Planning to spend the summer daytrading with money from 0%APR credit cards
5. Getting swindled by a chinatown electronics shop into purchasing one of these
6. Planning to Spend the summer studying for the LSAT
7. planning to use this virtualdj software I downloaded to make a mix tape
8. Seeing a dermatolgist, and thus having better skin.
9. Planning to rent my apartment out and spending the summer living off the rent in California.
10. Really getting tired about being this bad at what I've spent the last 10 years or so preparing to do. The curriculum is getting better, the class room design is getting better, my own organization is getting better. When I want a kid to do something, and that kid really doesn't want to do it, then I have the same problem, being that the kid gets to do it and there are usually no consequences for their actions. I know I'm supposed to have a lot of management strategies, but the main ones that I see actually working are treating a kid like a human being and having a quiet conversation about appropriate behavior and maturity, and suspending them. Right now I can't do either because,
a. I don't know what to say (yet), and
b. I don't have the power to suspend.
Any thing else (detention, conduct sheet, etc.) is some kind of derivative of the two. I think my school wants me to start handing out detentions and calling home parents but those don't really work because kids know they don't have to stay, and they are at the age where they are running wild at home anyways. So, thats exciting.

11. Finding out that I did get in to Columbia's Summer Principal Academy.
12. Planning to spend the summer working harder than I do during the school year (or at least thats what they say).
