Recently I joined the majority of New Yorkers when I turned my oldmsmobile alero in to the dealership. Unlike the majority of New Yorkers I am not at all excited about not having a motor vehicle or my reliance on the subway. Why don't I get another car or bike or vespa? I can spend the money right now, but it is just not a good choice. With my student loans growing, I should be spending my extra money on paying down the principal. And since my rent that is more money than some house notes, I should be savign for a down payment for a house some day. Because I really want to get a car I know that it will motivate me to accomplish stuff.
So, I am going to make a list of accomplishments and once I can check five or so things off the list, I'll go look at buying a vehicle. Here's what I have so far, but I can use some suggestions...
-Wait at least one year from June 2, 2006 (the day I got rid of my car)
-Pay off my speeding tickets, and maybe some parking tickets too
-Pay off my credt cards
-Opened a roth IRA
-Get certified as social studies teacher
-Make out with a hot brazilian (preferable in Brazil)
-Hook up with a lesbian
-Start Dating a super model (or just a mild-mannered model)
-Get married in Las Vegas, Gatlinburg Tenn., or Niagara Falls Ontario
-Get a role speaking in a real movie or on a tv show
-kick it with dave chapelle, a beastie boy, rasheed, samuel l., and/ or tayshaun
-Punch Ben Wallace in The FACE
-write a book
-publish an article
-crash a wedding
Anything I missed?

unfortunately, if you were britney spears, you would have accomplished many of these things.
i have used my car exactly twice this summer. once to drive a girl home one morning, the other to drive to bloomington and back, only three weeks after i got to chicago.
i love not dealing with my car--even though i love my car.
