Top Ten Observations of Post Election Life in Mass.
10. Seems like only people with smiles on their faces voted for Bush.
9. People are still rocking their Kerry/Edwards gear
8. Much like John Stewart, Many people don't plan on leaving the blue states for four
years, they're not kidding either.
7. This weekend it was really nice, even on Tuesday things were looking good too,
however wednesday it started to get a little crappy, and by Bush's speech time it
was cold and gray with a bitter wind and it rained all the next day.
6. Someone spray painted 'Curt Schilling is a Traitor!!!' on the side of a Building
5. Though some people are optimistic about '08, most see uprisings and protest on the
horizon "The revolution will not be televised"
4. marryacanadian.com (see for your self)
3. "I can't believe that it turned out this way!"
this one is three fold, A) The map was disturbingly polarized, with the west coast and the north east, michigan blue and all the other states red. No one gets why this happened, neither do I. B) The election was so close, again. My mentor teacher gave an explanation. Bush had a lot of consensus in the beginning, so Kerry started tailoring his message to take away his percentage, since the tailoring process is painful he decided to go only until he got 50% of his vote. If this theory is true all elections will come down to like one state like this. C) Bush won, The ramifications are huge, supreme court justices, No Child Left Behind, National Debts, everyone is scared for the future, which leads into...
2. The question isn't really are you going to leave the country, its are you going to come back. I kind of feel like there is this whole nationalism aspect to Bush's appeal, and since alot of the Kerry people have more of a global appeal to them anyways, they will probably just weather this term, (and maybe Jeb's too) in some other place. But since U.S. Flags are quickly becoming popular kindling, they are thinking changing nationalities to further distance themselves from the U.S.
1. Something Needs to Change
Democrats need to do something big, soon. I think even they know this (since democrats.org was all of a page and a half of text last I checked). Some are saying they get dirty like the right with their own propaganda machine, see Air America for that, as well as the remnants of these 527's. Others, like me, think they should try and actually define their policies and principles and align them under something big. Most of what I notice is that the Democrats are mostly just non-republican, while being pro-very little. One article( http://www.commondreams.org/views04/1104-01.htm ) I read talked about the lack of spiritual connection of the Democrats while much of the Republicans appeal were for moral issues, faith issues. I agree with that too. The other thing that needs to change, is the role of political things in peoples life.
If this presidency is going to cause people problems and they are complaining already they need to make sure their voice is heard when the time comes. Maybe some internet guy will develop some way people can sponsor lobbies from their homes, maybe their will need to be more letters to congress.
Larger than all of this I think is the discussion of the whole political system, more than just the electoral college stuff, but soemthing that will make it so we know how divided the country is ahead of time and work to fix it. Maybe I'm just new to being an adult, but it seems like many people can be very clear with political debate in their daily lives. Could political discourse step outside the bounds of cable news? Or even outside the usual discussions of party and hot button issues into larger ones of governmental structures? I hope so, but regardless something has got to change

Not everyone is scared for the future. In fact, over half the nation isn't; at least b/c GW is at the helm again.
Keep in mind you're getting one of the most stunted viewpoints in the nation sitting in Boston. The liberal arrogance of moral superiority permeates the place and like-mindedness doesn't offer any solutions.
Funniest post-election spray paint in Bloomington, IN: "Voting didn't do much."
There won't be uprisings or protests anywhere but the bastions of dissociation - the coasts. The cognitive elite - most likely to live in these places due to higher income and higher prices for housing, living, etc, cannot win elections. Previous recent successful Democrats include hokey southern boys like Slick Willy and Jimmy Carter. Both were disastrous foreign policy presidents; one almost criminally so - the other got YASSER ARAFAT a Nobel peace prize. Good riddance, Yasser.
Best advice for democrats? Quit acting like everyone that doesn't agree with you is stupid or that Bush supporters must be mindfucked by propaganda - on both counts, you're wrong. (Obviously Coliver, you're not guilty of these arrogances. But a lot of your Bostonians are). Most of America looked at John Kerry and saw a snobby lecturer that thought he was smarter than his opponent. Nobody likes that demeanor.
Most Americans couldn't give a damn if these kinds of people left the country. Notice that not only did Bush win, but Republicans took major victories in every avenue of the election. And typically Democratic states were much closer this year than when Gore ran in 2000.
This whole campaign was laced with so much toxin that it's hard to look at the opposition now that it's over. Who's fault is it? Really, like Jon Stewart said, it's the media's. There's no voice of moderation or sane political debate. It's all Jerry Springer-ized.
I'll note in departure that I haven't bragged, and though I voted for GW and was happy with his victory, I was shocked at the gravity of it. 3.5-4 million vote victory? Unbelievable.
Yeah, I know it is real weird being here, hence the post of all these oddities I noticed. Yeah I know Bush won by 3-4 million votes, bout a little chunk of the population of a good sized state like Florida, or Ohio, I imagine that is about 51% of the vote, so I guess technically it is more than half the country's voting population but that still means that almost half the country's population disagree with him. That's alot, that's more than just the rich over educated places that live in high rent places like Michigan, that's also the poor and low income that make those little blue pockets in every urban area on every map of damn near every state in the nation especially the blue states. I'm not going to get real serious into this whole partisan shit now that the election is over with. The partisan shit is a large problem of what's going on, Liberalism is not going to go anywhere, even if this election makes the convservatives feel they have a 'Mandate' to go spending their political capital like it is going out of style. The policies they come up with will still be compared to the standards of liberalism and will need to at least justify their existence agains the liberal critics that make that tiny little 49% of the voting population. That's the way it should be, like you said political discourse only makes things get better, or something like that.
P.S. Who the fuck is Tizza?
how the hell do you keep getting these random people posting on your blog? I never get comment-spammed. you need to get haloscan up in this piece!
I don't usually get random blog comment spam, this Tizza thing is actually the first I've ever gotten. And the gilded rabble rouser is actually my good friend Bob Hoerauff from High School. I might try that out later but it sounds confusing right now

Tie Guy? I never knew, I feel....Betrayed.
Regardless, wouldn't syd have to be at the reunion, she was on student council or some shit right?
Carl what makes you a such a liberal Democrat? Living down south has its advantages...you get a chance to see the country from a different perspective. You can actually find Republicans who care about the global community and not just the almighty dollar. In fact, Many African Americans chose to become Republicans due to the Filthy, Sleezy, Democrats who take advantage of the poor black underclass men and women. Which makes me wonder...Why do African Americans side with the Party that failed to deliver us from slavery, and continues to put on their tap shoes and dance with us whenever election time comes around. Kerry/Edwards ticket lost and now democrats are leaving the ghetto in shambles. Kerry/Edwards signs now litter the streets just like old Hip Hop LP Posters. The renovated campaign headquarters are now abandoned buildings of failed hope. After this election they should have stuck around to help dry our eyes. Now we sit in our ghetto fubulous projects waiting for another blue-eyed savior. Democratic voting has been my choice for 5 elections. In fact I voted for KERRY this year. Yet, somehow post-Clinton lifestyle has turned into a dog-eat-dog society. Ask yourself...who cares about the African American vote? Lets look at the numbers...All of your blue states had heavy AA voters. We turned out in large numbers. Yet our southern AA voters in the Red States...our Truck Driving/Chicken Ranchero's and Agriculturalists...voted for Bush. Why? Because they know how to make money. The Democratic ticket rarely stopped in Rural America. The small town matters. Death tolls from Iraq matter in Small towns...yet Taxation matters so much more. African Americans need to find a leader quick. One who can assemble the culture and do more than ask us to Vote or Die...obviously we aren't dead...or are we 3 ft high on the totem pole? (Just ask the Native Americans who sit 3 ft below us.) I better start speaking spanish...it seems to me that Brown is the Republicans favorite people of color.
I just wanted to drop a quick note to tell you that the sweater you were wearing today was A-O-K, pahtna' (and I really wanted to see if I could get you oooone step closer to double-digit comments!)
