Fun stuff to do around Boston
In the past week I have been able to take advantage of the exciting things there are to do in this city. On Tuesday I got to go on a Duck tour, our Duck was a vehichle that actually stormed the beaches of Normandy in WWII. The soldiers then called them Ducks because they were so slow (only 90 Horsepower). This 17 ton thing cruised around the city of Boston's Historic sites and then drove into the Charles River where the Duck goes amphibious and we cruised around for a little while, he even let me drive the Duck for minute. The Driver makes the tour cool, because he has all sorts of jokes and stories about the city. The Ducks are tied to the Museum of science, so you can get cheap tickets there along with your tour. And currently the Museum has a exclusive Lord of the Rings exhibit, so I got to see all the actual movie props, and examples of all the computer and visual effects that made the movie so cool. The next day I went whale watching, which was kind of cool. Those things are always around because they have to breath up at the surface, and the have a no-fishing nature preserve out in the ocean where the whales go to feed out. If you don't see a whale they give you another trip for free. The whales are cool, they come up and breathe a few times, then they dive deep in the water, and when they do that they flip their tail up high in the air like you see in all the pictures. The tour people can then look at their tail and match it to the pictures they have of all the whales around, and they can tell which whale it is, they all have names, maybe even their mother, or how old they are (which can be over 80 years old). Finally today I enjoyed the time honored habit of arguing with the political people in Harvard Square, this particular person things that the global economy will collapse if we don't start using Gold as a currency again, and that Detroit stopped being an industrial power because of the effect of the JFK assassination. good times, GOOD TIMES!
