Big meeting
A week ago I went to a meeting of the school board, the same school board that will vote to decide whether my school and a host of other schools will remain open or closed. The meeting was deluged with members of the school communities who were endangered, members of the teachers union, reporters from every newspaper, and at least 1 television camera. The other schools have an amazing amount of support, and tis well-founded. The city closed schools who do great work serving hundreds of ell and special ed populations. These older schools had to see these populations swell after the small schools hand picked all of the more productive students from the student pool. Our school? Unfortunately, we were only 3 people deep. We also did not really have anything to say about the closing of our school. Why? Good question.
