Redemption

I would like to talk about teaching and how my teaching is going right now, however I can't right now. Picture a little kid out for their first halloween and you asked them hows it going. They are wearing some weird costume, probably getting no candy and there are a whole bunch of kids better than you at this whole thing. Well if you ask, he'd probably say "fine" or "good" or "shitty...fuck kinda holiday is this anyway?" but it really wouldn't matter because they don't know enough about halloween to judge.
I can talk about basketball though. I hated basketball every since high school, and that coach. I rarely played pick up ball, I rarely watched any basketball that didn't involve a championship. And when I did watch basketball I wasn't concerned in the action, I was just kind of waiting for an excuse to drink (chauncy from the corner time for Jager!).
Then I came to school and because it was a brand new school we don't have anything like sports, or textbooks, or even, at this point, paper to write on. The kids picked up on this and I spend alot of time fielding complaints from the students about what we don't have and what fucking kind of school is this anyways.
We also didn't have any teachers to teach electives, foreign language, typing, foods, so we were forced to come up with our own classes to teach. So to make my life easier I listened to the kids complaining and made my elective basketball. Which consists of going down to the neighborhood park and playing basketball.
Long story short, saw the kids unvarnished love for the game, was inspired to start a basketball team and be the coach. Surrounded by more of the infectious love of basketball I wound up playing with the kids regularly and rekindling my love for the game. Redemption.
