Guess I'm a Shitty Blogger

It has occured to me that I am quite a shitty blogger, despite the obvious pun in reference to my first day of harvard blog. But I don't put anything on here that often, and I don't go see what other people are doing with their blogs, and what not. In an attempt to handle one of those requests I am going to just write whatever for the next five minutes.

This program has been a little disappointing, not just in terms of money like Ms. Gorilla was complaining about earlier today, but from the lack of attention paid to the gap between their website promises and the syallabus, and to how we should fix "the achievement gap." "The achievement gap" itself is kind of loaded language, so vague that it can be solved by doing virtually nothing. Kind of like "save the planet" I drive my car only at night so I can "save the planet," however the amount in which I saved the planet is hardly measurable, and far from the best way to save the planet. The metaphor here may be shitty, but hopefully the idea squeezed through, that I could have been working to close the gap at the summer school in my neighborhood, the gap between kids who fail and go to summer school, and those who don't might shrink if I do some inspired teaching, and it doesn't cost $27,000. What should cost $27,000, is the knowledge of what is proven to best close the gap and training in how to implement those strategies, and inspire a similar implementation among my coworkers.

good one, carl. nancy and I were talking about maybe writing a poll for everyone to fill out (a REAL anonymous poll, not like reagan's, which asked for our undergraduate university's name!) and turn in to the big wigs...there are many concerns such as yours floating around.

Good Call,
I think an easy way to do it would be to make a new blog with entries like "What do you think of the programs definition of Urban?" "How has your mentor helped your training?" "What do you want this program to do for you by the end of the year?" and then tell people to go on to it and make comments anonyously under it.

I even bet if we talk to Kay Straight up about it she would be cool since she was really interested in receiving feedback.
